Fair Share for the 5th District
One needn’t look far to see the effect of the current recession. Neighbors, friends and family have all been affected by the downturn. The plight of local businesses, small and large, has in many cases grown desperate, and local government funding of education and social programs has contracted dramatically. Nevertheless, Wisconsin residents continue to send large remittances to the federal government. In this time of economic turmoil, it is fair to ask what they are receiving in return.
The fact is, it is much less than other states and districts. Our current Congressional Representative is proud of having made a career out of limiting the amount federal assistance to our district. I couldn’t disagree more thoroughly with him.
- At this time and in this economic condition, it is imperative that we ask for our fair share. It’s time that instead of touting low earmarks and remittances to our district, our representative assists in returning some of our investment.
